SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced Director of Design & Engineering to lead the design and engineering function for a growing fire protection company serving industrial and commercial clients. This is a high-impact leadership position for someone with extensive experience in fire sprinkler system design, engineering, project development, and client relationships. The ideal candidate will bring 20+ years of fire sprinkler experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to work directly with clients, contractors, engineers, and project teams. This person will play a key role in overseeing design activities while also helping the company grow through existing industry relationships and new business opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONABLITIES:
Lead and oversee the companys fire sprinkler design and engineering operations
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to design and engineering teams
Review and oversee fire sprinkler system designs, hydraulic calculations, drawings, and specifications
Conduct job walks, site visits, field assessments, and project evaluations
Work closely with customers, general contractors, engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders
Help develop fire protection solutions for both industrial and commercial facilities
Review project requirements, plans, specifications, and scope of work
Ensure designs comply with applicable NFPA, local codes, and industry standards
Support estimating, proposals, and project development from a technical perspective
Participate in client meetings and provide technical expertise throughout the sales and project lifecycle
Identify opportunities to improve design processes, efficiency, quality, and profitability
Assist with developing and maintaining strong relationships with key customers and industry partners
Leverage existing relationships within the fire protection, industrial, construction, engineering, and commercial markets to help generate new business
Partner with company leadership on strategic growth initiatives and market development
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:
20+ years of experience in fire sprinkler design, engineering, or fire protection
NICET certification is strongly preferred
Extensive experience designing fire sprinkler systems
Strong understanding of NFPA standards, fire codes, hydraulic calculations, and fire protection requirements
Experience conducting job walks and field evaluations
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and plans
Experience working with industrial and/or commercial clients
Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, from design and estimating through installation and completion
Excellent communication and client relationship skills
Ability to lead, mentor, and develop design/engineering personnel
Strong business development mindset with an established network of clients and industry contacts
Proven ability to identify opportunities and help bring in new business
Engineering, fire protection, or related technical education is preferred
