Job Overview

An equipment mechanic ensures that trucks, machinery and mechanical equipment operate safely and efficiently. They diagnose problems, perform repairs, and carry out routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and other parts
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using testing equipment and software
  • Repair or replace defective parts (e.g., engines, brakes, transmissions)
  • Perform routine maintenance like oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacement
  • Keep maintenance records and reports
  • Follow safety procedures and regulations
  • Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper performance

Common Equipment Worked On

  • Agricultural equipment (tractors, harvesters)
  • Industrial machines
  • Trucks and diesel engines
  • JLG equipment preferred but not required

Required Skills

  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge
  • Problem-solving and diagnostic ability
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment
  • Attention to detail and safety awareness

Education & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
  • Technical training or certification in diesel or heavy equipment repair (often preferred)
  • Apprenticeship or on-the-job training
  • Some roles may require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Work Environment

  • Repair shops, construction sites, or outdoor environments
  • May involve heavy lifting, noise, and working in various weather conditions


Compensation details: 25-32 Hourly Wage
