Position SummaryThe Maintenance Manager is responsible for establishing, developing, and leading the on-site maintenance organization for utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants in the United States. This role will build and manage a local maintenance team, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the solar facilities while maximizing plant availability and energy production.The Maintenance Manager will oversee preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities, manage contractors and suppliers, ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a high-performing local maintenance team for PV plant operations.
- Establish maintenance procedures, work standards, and best practices consistent with company policies and industry requirements.
- Develop team capabilities through technical training, safety programs, and performance management.
- Foster a strong culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Lead daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance planning and performance meetings.
Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement preventive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance programs for solar PV facilities.
- Ensure timely execution of maintenance activities to maximize plant availability and performance.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment failures and recurring issues.
- Oversee maintenance of:
- PV modules
- Inverters
- Medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems
- Transformers
- Substations and switchgear
- SCADA and monitoring systems
- Tracker systems and associated equipment
- Balance-of-plant infrastructure
- Manage emergency response and outage recovery activities.
Operational Performance
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including availability, performance ratio, reliability, safety, and maintenance costs.
- Analyze operational data and identify opportunities to improve plant performance and asset reliability.
- Support performance testing, inspections, and commissioning activities when required.
- Ensure accurate maintenance documentation and reporting within CMMS and other management systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, electrical safety procedures, and environmental requirements.
- Implement and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and permit-to-work processes.
- Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
- Promote a zero-incident safety culture throughout the site.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets and forecasts.
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining high levels of equipment reliability and performance.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement activities.
- Coordinate and supervise third-party contractors and service providers.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary maintenance representative for the site.
- Collaborate closely with operations teams, engineering groups, EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, and external service companies.
- Provide regular reports to senior management regarding maintenance performance, resource needs, and improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance management experience in utility-scale solar, power generation, electrical utilities, or related industrial environments.
- Proven experience building and leading maintenance teams in a field-based operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, solar PV technology, substations, transformers, inverters, and SCADA systems.
- Experience with CMMS platforms and maintenance planning methodologies.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and electrical safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing maintenance activities for utility-scale solar plants (>50 MW).
- NABCEP certification or equivalent renewable energy qualification.
- Electrical switching and high-voltage operations experience.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
- Experience working with NERC, ISO, utility, or grid compliance requirements.
