Post-Partum RN - Night Shifts

We are seeking a skilled Post-Partum Registered Nurse (RN)- NIGHT SHIFTS to join our team on day shifts at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD. The Post-Partum RN will provide care for postpartum mothers and newborns, monitor patients' conditions, and assist with breastfeeding support and education.
Education: The Postpartum Registered Nurse shall meet the education that apply to all healthcare
providers:
- Degree/Education: Earn a Diploma (AD or BSN) from an accredited school of Nursing
- Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: RN with a current, active, full, and
unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia,
the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Must have and maintain
BLS, S.T.A.B.L.E, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)-renewed every 2 years.
Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a
Registered Nurse
Qualifications: The contract RN shall possess the following qualifications at all times during
contract performance:
• Experience: Continuously employed in the practice of Registered Nurse for 3 years prior to start
of work at the MTF, with at least two years as an RN caring for high-risk obstetrical patients.
Experience in the full spectrum of post-partum care.
• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Communication: Read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently to
effectively communicate with patients, families, and all healthcare providers.

• Computer Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in basic computer operations, including word
processing and data entry for automated medical records (e.g., MHS GENESIS)
Competency Verification: Prior to performing independent patient care, the contract RN shall
successfully complete the following mandatory requirements. The timelines herein are firm and
sequential.
1. Prerequisite Training:
- Medication Test: Successfully pass the MTF's medication administration test. This test may be waived if the Government deems the RN has provided evidence of completing a comparable, recent pharmacology test.
- Procedural In-Services: Successfully complete the MTF-provided in-services for IV placement and blood administration before being assigned these tasks.
2. Phase A: Initial Unit Orientation:
- Timeline: This phase shall be completed within the first four (4) scheduled shifts.
- Scope: This orientation covers the essential familiarization required for basic, safe practice on the unit, including unit layout, emergency procedures, core equipment, and fundamental documentation workflows.
3. Phase B: Full Competency Verification:
- Timeline: The comprehensive, final unit-specific competency skills checklist shall be completed and documented within twenty (20) scheduled shifts of the employee's start date

This is a full-time position working night shifts. The exact schedule may vary based on the needs of the unit.
